CELEBRATING OVER 50 YEARS OF FOOTBALL
CELEBRATING OVER 50 YEARS OF FOOTBALL
Welcome to the South Coogee Junior Football Club. Established in 1972, South Coogee is one of the oldest Football Clubs in the district and currently has approximately 550 boys & girls from pre-primary to Y12 enjoying their football with us each year.
In 2022 the club celebrated its 50th year of Australian Rules Football within the Coogee community and wider City of Cockburn. The club would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank it's volunteers and sponsors, whom without their support and dedication the club would not enjoy the success it has today.
In 2017 the South Coogee Junior Football Club launched it's All Girls program, the program has continued to grow each year.
In 2024 South Coogee introduced the award winning Starkick All-Abilities Football Program. If you want to play we'll find a way!
In 2023 the Club engaged Aboriginal artist's Carl Garlett and Nola Naylor, Grandparent's to one of our Year 11 Boys, to design an Indigenous Club jumper as part of NAIDOC Round.
In addition to the amazing jumper, which tells the story of the South Coogee region, Nola and Carl also donated the original pieces of artwork that will be proudly hung in our Clubrooms.
Further brief explanation of the artworks:
Each painting reflects that of the lizards; its competitive behaviour to survive and thrive amongst its peers and do the best they can do for all. The surrounding artwork reflects the past and the present and will tell these stories into the future.
The first painting tells the story of South Coojee (Body of water) based between the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River), Walyalup (Fremantle) and Coojee. This was one of the many areas the Noongar people lived and hunted.
The painting in team colours tells a new story, through the message sticks. The diversity shown by the pictures within the message sticks, the journey of the team, their game play that will be shared within the team, family, and community and well into the future.
